Barnaby Robson - Musician

Television

Barnaby's most recent project has been to write the original music for "Bike Squad", a new comedy/drama for ITV1 from Hat Trick Productions. A feature length special for ITV1's New Year schedule staring Mark Addy (Full Monty), Maxine Peake (Shameless), written and directed by Guy Jenkin (Drop the Dead Donkey).

"With Guy being a big fan of rock/indie guitar, he wanted lots of that kind of sound in the "Bike Squad" score, which works really well with the style of the film. So a guitar based "Bike Squad" theme crops up in various guises through the story. There's also a number of classic rock & pop tracks in the show which the original music needed to both compliment and occasionally pay homage to.

Additionally, Guy wanted a rock based action score for the big 'set piece' finale. The flip side to these musical elements were the emotional aspects of the plot - particularly the unexpected reveals for the main protagonist "John" (Mark Addy), which required something much more delicate and 'classical' in style.

Finally, some plot moments of panic & confusion were a happy mix of composer electronics and sound department FX's, so all in all, we ended up covering lots interesting genres in one score!"
Barnaby Robson - composer

"Guy has written a great script. Bike Squad shows a fun side to the police force - everybody loves the underdog and I know our audience will grow to love them and laugh along with them."
Paul Jackson - ITV director of comedy and entertainment

"I wanted to do something that took a fresh look at the police; something that was belly-laugh-funny but also took a serious look at the lives of our characters."
Guy Jenkin - Writer/Director

"Bike Squad" was broadcast on ITV1 - 9pm January 4th 2008.
It attracted viewing figures of 4.6 million and won it's time slot.
"Bike Squad" will be available on DVD later this year.
